What To Look For When Thinking About Buying A Pc Desktop

By Andrew Johnson

Whether you are replacing your old pc desktop or if it is the first one you have bought, it is always good to have a few tips to help you pick out what might be the best choice for your needs.

One of the first things you need to consider is the processor that is in the pc desktop. It is not as easy these days to decide on which processor due to the different layers that each have. It is still either AMD or Intel but they have a huge variety now. There is the outdated version which is no longer made by the manufacturer and are in either in budget computers or refurbished ones. Computers with this will probably take longer to run an app or may not even be able to run newer software. Then there are budget processors which may or may not be still on the market. They work pretty well and are very inexpensive. The middle of the road processor is probably most commonly one purchased and does a very good job for all your needs and is well worth it for the money. Top of the line, at this point in time there is only one to choose from, but; if you must have the top processor then the Intel Core i7 Extreme 965 to 975 would be the one you would want to get.

The next thing that is important to look for is the memory or what is called RAM. Computers today mostly use DDR3 and not DDR2, the DDR2 will usually be found in your very low budget pc desktop computers. The best way to ensure that you will get a very smooth running computer is to make sure that your RAM is at least 4GB.

The hard drive is an important part of your pc desktop for the storage size and for more speed. The larger the storage area the faster your computer is going to operate. These days, it seems that the most common size of hard drive is around 500GB, some others even go for more. But you'd be doing good at 500GB.

Even the low budget computers will have CD/DVD drives or what is called optical drives. Probably the most important think to note here is that you should make sure that the DVD burner is able to support the different formats like +R/RW and -R/RW. Also make sure that the recording speed is at least 16x.

Every few months it seems video cards change for pc desktop computers, so deciding what kind to get might be a little difficult. If you are not into gaming and more into just browsing the Internet, light gaming and movies then, you probably don't have to worry about making sure the video card is 3D. But do make sure that the video card does have DirectX.

Monitors are very important, if you don't have a good monitor what good is the pc desktop you are buying? You still have the choice between a CRT and LCD's but more and more people are leaning towards the LCD flat screens because they save energy, are slim in design and are getting much lower in price now. It is wise to make sure you get the correct ratio and resolution that will suit your needs, especially if you are a big movie watcher you going to want to make sure the ratio is at least 16:10 or 16:9

No matter what type of pc desktop computer you decide to purchase, what is important is that it is something that you want, not what someone else tries to get you to buy. - 31403
