The Maxtor Hard Drive For Dummies

By Matthew Kerridge

If you are in search of a Maxtor hard drive, you will get a new type of pleasure. This distinguished computer corporation has joined forces with Seagate and now is known only as Seagate. The entire Maxtor Company is now Seagate. They have combined their hard work to incorporate the same impressive hard drives in conjunction with some recently developed products too. When searching for whichever one, the products will now be united.

Seagate/Maxtor offer external and internal hard drives to suit personal or professional needs, allowing to pick which product is suitable for you. Each have exceptional functionality, expanding the storage capabilities of your computer. However, an internal hard drive must be installed into the computer, whereas the external hard drive plugs into the computer and can easily be transferred from computer to computer or place to place.

Those who keep larger volumes of important information know that this type of storage is great for backing up the existing computer hard drive. If your internal hard drive is stolen, damaged, or lost somehow, you will still have what you need when you need it most, because it is stored in multiple locations. There is no need to lose information any more.

Maxtor (Seagate) offers hard drives ranging in capacity from 250GB to 2TB. What this means is that a hard drive measures file size in bytes. GB is short for gigabyte and is about a billion bytes. TB stands for terabytes which is a trillion bytes. If you only need to back up a few files or transfer them then you probably only need up to about 500GB in your hard drive. But if you have bigger needs, such as backing up an entire computer or more than one computer, then you need to go with a 1TB or more size hard drive.

Maxtor-Seagate hard drives are intended to work, regardless of whether you own a PC or a Mac. They can be formatted (and/or reformatted) to perform on either one without problem. An important note on reformatting: it is very imperative to remember that when you reformat the hard drive, each and every file will be permanently expunged. Consequently, it is mandatory to back up all of the most important files safely before reformatting begins.

Seagate and Maxtor hard drives are designed with your needs in mind, so that you can increase your computer storage in a way that suits you. Whether you need a little or a lot, there is something in the Seagate product line that will function for what you need when you need it.

Commit to memory that while the companies have merged in name, Maxtor even now has great hard drive products; they are just labeled Seagate. This recently merged company combined the best qualities of two great companies. The solitary thing that lost is the recognizable name: Maxtor. - 31403
