How To Choose The Best Laptop Computers

By Matthew Kerridge

Laptop computers are now more popular than ever before, they are becoming a must have item. There is a massive array of models available with a huge variety of specifications. There are options that will suit everybody's requirements and demands.

Of course one of the main reasons for buying a laptop is their size. They can range in weight and size from the ultra thin to more regular sized options. If you need a laptop to carry with you when travelling or commuting then the lightweight portable models are perfect; for those people who are going to leave theirs at home then the larger sizes can give a better experience.

The cost is always important when buying a laptop. There is a wide array of prices. It is possible to find a model for a good price that offers a more than satisfactory performance. Today it is easy to search online to check out the latest ranges and compare prices. There are many websites that can help you get the most for your money.

Just because a laptop is compact does not always mean it will give good performance. It use to be the case that desktop PCs had the most powerful processors but now this is not always so. There are a number of laptops that now come with dual core and quad core CPUs to give a more reliable performance.

Most laptops will not have as much memory or RAM as would a desktop PC, but nevertheless it is still important that your machine is not underpowered. To handle the latest operating systems such as Vista and Windows 7 you will need at least 2 GB RAM, though if you are planning on using the laptop for a number of years then maybe 3 GB or 4 GB is a better choice.

Of course the resolution and size of the screen can also vary greatly from small six inch models up to twenty inch options, and every size in between. You should choose the screen that matches the amount of time you are going to spend using the laptop. Also bear in mind that movies will look better on widescreens with a high resolution.

The reason why some laptops can be so light and thin is that they do not have a DVD drive. If you have a lot of DVDs then it may be worth getting a slightly bigger model or invest in an external DVD drive.

Overall it is important to choose a laptop depending on whether it will be used every day or just as a secondary system. - 31403
