There Are Good Reasons To Buy A Refurbished Laptop

By Patty Hough

If you don't want to pay full price for a laptop, you can choose to buy one that is refurbished. That terms sometimes has a bad connotation but all it means is that it was returned for some reason, the manufacturer checked it out and fixed it, and it is now for resale at a lower price. Often times, the unit was returned for some small reason or problem and the manufacturer has given it a thorough going over and OK'd it for resale. Once the unit is returned to the store, it must be sold as refurbished which will usually mean a lower price.

A great time to consider buying a refurbished laptop is when your teenager comes home and says they need one for school. It is understandable to not want to pay full price for a laptop in this situation when you know your teen is probably not going to take care of it like they should. Refurbished laptops are great for any child that wants their first laptop and you should be able to easily get away with buying the cheaper models as well. All laptops now come with so much memory and RAM that it is extremely unlikely that your child will need more than a basic unit provides.

If you want to get a refurbished computer, going online might be your best bet, as the retail stores will not have a full selection. The big retail stores will only have the units that have been returned to them and that may only be a handful at a time. Places like Ebay and Amazon may have a lot more selection and you will be able to choose from both refurbished and used units.

When you buy anything that is refurbished, make sure it comes with the manufactures warranty just in case. Although it has already been examined and given the OK from the manufacturer, you never know whether something might go wrong a second time. Making sure you have a warranty is just a smart thing to get for whatever type of electronics item you buy, as you want to make sure you are covered if something doesn't work correctly.

If you choose to get a refurbished laptop you will be doing what many parents do the first time they buy a computer for one of their kids. Paying full price for a loaded laptop is not necessary especially when you know that your child may not take the greatest of care with it. Kids might also spill food on it and knowing that you did not pay full price for it, especially in today's economy, will allow you to sleep better at night. - 31403
