HP Laptop History, Function and Future

By Matthew Kerridge

Personal laptops are a great way for people to keep up with their personal finances, leisure activities and business in a relatively compact piece of equipment. From social networking, email and online chats, to presentations, spreadsheets and special documents, Hewlett Packard, or HP, has revolutionized the laptop industry, making these portable computers both affordable and functional. Almost every American has access to a laptop computer, and with good reason: we are on the go more than ever before. Technology is making it possible for us to multitask on a daily basis, no matter where we are.

Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard were classmates at Stanford University when they founded Hewlett Packard. Though their first products were not computers, their smart and innovative inventions helped pave the way for the computers we have today. Laptops have come a long way from the days of bulky construction, small and shady screens, limited storage space and floppy disks. Not only has the technology improved dramatically, but the price tag has dropped tremendously as well.

There are hundreds of HP laptops available on the market today. As of October 2009, HP's most affordable laptop was the $86 HP Business Notebook Nc2400. However, even the most extensive requirements can be carried out on the $1100 HP Compaq Business Notebook 2710p. HP is ever expanding and constantly releasing new versions of their coveted computers for both business and entertainment purposes.

When shopping for an HP laptop, there are several elements to consider. A person must first know what the primary purpose of the computer is. If the computer is being used for basic home needs such as Internet surfing, music and picture storing, a fancy model may not be needed. However, if the computer is being used for gaming, media or business purposes, it may be necessary to choose an HP laptop with a few more bells and whistles.

Everyone who purchases an HP laptop has innovative features that are cutting edge and relevant to today's society. Some HP laptops come with upgrades that allow the user to design and create their own CD labels. Other people want to purchase extra hard drive space. Gamers tend to gravitate to high performance graphics cards and people who travel a lot like to stay in touch with their families via webcam.

Though almost all HP laptops created today have a wireless card built into their structure, some now come with a WWAN ExpressCard that lets the user have the option of finding an Internet connection from almost anywhere in the world. They don't even have to find a wireless Internet hotspot.

HP laptops will continue to be cutting edge in the coming years, with unthinkable capabilities and storage space. The standards are constantly changing and technology is ever increasing. HP is helping to set those standards with their performance oriented laptops. The Hewlett Packard brand has been around for seventy years and doesn't appear to be going anywhere soon. With their reputation as a leader in quality and endurance, HP laptops are sure to be around for many years to come. - 31403
